Hurricane Helene Recovery & Resources

See All News

All of us at South Arts – our board and staff – want to express empathy and concern for all who have been affected by the recent storms and flooding across the region.

We thank everyone who is working so hard to help those in need and recognize that recovery will take much time, patience and resources. Below are some of the resources we’re aware of that may be helpful to artists, arts organizations and communities who have been impacted. If you are aware of other resources that may be helpful, please contact Charles Phaneuf at cphaneuf@southarts.org.

To South Arts Grantees

We understand that Hurricane Helene has impacted many of you, and we want to offer our support during this challenging time. To help ease any burdens, we’re providing flexibility on grant application due dates and grant reporting deadlines. Your well-being is our priority, so please take the time you need to recover and regroup. If you have any questions or need further assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to the Program Director you're working with. We’re here for you.

For cultural institutions and artists

How were you impacted? Please complete these Rapid Damage Assessment Forms from FEMA and encourage others to as well:

  • Cultural Institutions
  • Arts Organizations
  • Individual Artists and Performing Groups

Cultural institutions, arts organizations, and artists and performing groups can call the National Heritage Responders hotline: 202-661-8068.

The National Heritage Responders, a team of trained conservators and collections care professionals administered by the Foundation for Advancement in Conservation, are available 24/7 to provide advice and guidance.

Members of the public and individual artists who have questions about saving family heirlooms and personal collections can email the National Heritage Responders at NHRpublichelpline@culturalheritage.org.
