Southeast Kentucky African-American Museum and Cultural Center

The Southeast Kentucky African-American Museum and Cultural Center will use In These Mountains Infrastructure funds to further their goals of identifying and perpetuating traditional arts and culture in the African-American community of Southeast Kentucky. The story of the African American in this region has been left untold; the history and culture is not taught or passed on to the next generation. They believe that if these voices do not speak, the sound of silence will prevail, and no one will know that there was (and is) a Black presence in these mountains. SEKAAMACC wants to tell their story in the context of the overall local history, re-inserting the pages back into the history book. Their goal is also to show how the cultures in this area intersect and examine what we share.
