About the Artist
Winner of the International B-Jazz Competition and Winner of Best Soloist Prize, the Philippe Lemm Trio is continually proving to be one of the most exciting and electrifying jazz trio's around today. Led at the helm by drummer Philippe Lemm, the group met in New York in 2011, and after one session together, realized that their undeniable chemistry was one that needed to be taken and shared with the world. The trio consists of Philippe Lemm, drums/glockenspiel/band leader, Angelo Di Loreto, Piano, and Jeff Koch, upright and electric bass. This trio has toured extensively around the US, India and Europe - primarily in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, the UK, Poland, and Spain. Some of their most notable performances have been at the North Sea Jazz Festival, The Pori Jazz Festival, The Blue Note in NYC, Ronnie Scotts in London, the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and the Bimhuis in Amsterdam. They have been touring as a trio since the summer of 2015 and have played over 100 shows internationally, and close to 50 within the US.
Philippe Lemm, born and raised in Amsterdam, has quickly become one of the most versatile and expressive drummers in both Europe and the NYC area. At the age of 19 he was admitted at The Amsterdam Conservatory. In his second year at the conservatory Philippe started touring internationally with jazz trumpeter Saskia Laroo as well as leading his own group Wazabe. At the end of his studies in Amsterdam Philippe was extensively playing with renowned Dutch jazz musicians like Karel Boehlee (Toots Thielemans), Jorg Kaaij (Jazz Orchestra of the Concert Gebouw) and Peter Tiehuis (Metropole Orchestra). Philippe has recently received a JUNO nomination (Canadian GRAMMYS) for his work in the album Black Sea by pianist John Stetch. Philippe is an adjunct faculty drum teacher for Columbia University in New York.
