Dance Touring Initiative

Grant Amount

$5,000

Duke Performances engaged Tina Vasquez to consult on our ambitious yearlong residency with Camille A. Brown & Dancers — a programmatic initiative that included robust community engagement with various individuals and organizations in our home base of Durham, North Carolina, alongside public presentations of Brown’s dance theater trilogy on African American identity (ink, BLACK GIRL: Linguistic Play, and Mr. TOL E. RAncE). Employing her professional background in racial equity and organizational development consulting, Tina contributed to several projects within the scope of the yearlong residency: steering curriculum development related to the themes of Brown’s work for Durham Public Schools instructors; leading a monthly discussion group composed of local artists, educators, and activists in connection to the themes of Brown’s work; supervising and contributing to documentation and evaluation of the residency; and co-supervising a residency-specific Duke University student internship.
