About the Artist
The touring ensemble is called Rob Garcia 4 which was formed in 2009. Since then the group has released five albums on Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records and Fresh Sound Records. Garcia has toured with different iterations of the band several times to places including Spain, England, Italy, Canada, the U.S. Northeast and West Coast. The group has performed at such important venues as Iridium (NYC), Smalls Jazz Club (NYC), Jamboree (Barcelona), Ronnie Scott's (London), Firehouse 12 (New Haven, CT), The Rex (Toronto), The Toronto Jazz Festival, The Kingston Jazz Festival (Canada) and the Ottawa International Jazz Festival.
The personnel for this quartet has changed periodically in the 12 years it has been in existence, however tenor saxophonist Noah Preminger has been a mainstay for the entire history of the group. Rob and Noah have also collaborated in other projects, recorded several albums and have toured extensively together. This current touring quartet also includes pianist Leo Genovese and bassist Kim Cass. This particular combination of personnel has not toured before, but has done some performances in the NYC area before the pandemic shutdown. This group earlier performed in Brooklyn, NY on June 26 and July 8.
“A prime mover in the current Brooklyn jazz scene” (Time Out-New York) and "one of New York’s great jazz drummers and composers.” (Capital New York), Rob Garcia continues to be a strong presence in the New York and international jazz scene as a sideman and bandleader. He has collaborated with such stellar artists as Joe Lovano, Sheila Jordan, Dave Liebman, Wynton Marsalis, Diana Krall, Myra Melford, Joseph Jarman, Kris Davis, Anat Cohen, Reggie Workman and Wycliffe Gordon. He has played on over 70 albums including Grammy winners.
Rob has released 8 critically acclaimed albums as a bandleader and 5 as a co-leader which feature such artists as Joe Lovano, Kate McGarry, Dan Tepfer, John O’Gallagher, Gary Versace, Joe Martin, John Hebert, Dave Kikoski and Mike Formanek. His most recent album Illumination was released on Fresh Sound Records in December 2020. Rob has received grants from Meet The Composer, DCA and NYSCA to support his performances. He is also a member of the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop.
Rob is the founder and artistic director of the non-profit Connection Works and a member of the Brooklyn Jazz Underground.
