About the Artists

At the core of Firey String Sistas, are three powerhouse females. The ’Sistas nucleus is Nioka Workman (founder), Marlene Rice and Mala Waldron. All write for the band. Together they infuse world, global funk, ‘head bopping’ soul and Jazz rhythms that result in a unique sound for violin, cello, bass, piano and percussion. The Firey String Sistas extend from 3 to 5, introducing acoustic and electric artists on live stage platforms. Essential to the ’Sista, is a cross pollination and amplification of women’s voices. Included in the mix is artistry, a celebration of family traditions, tone paintings of our times, essential culture reflections like the pandemic and a fresh ensemble innovation that is inspiring future generations.
