About the Artist
The Souris-Jordan Jazz Orchestra, led by saxophonist Addison Jordan and drummer Alex Souris, is an experimental, modern jazz group that was formed in 2016 and is based out of Denton, TX. The two met as students at UNT where they shared a vision for an original band that could serve as a vehicle to explore a range of contemporary influences within the chordless context. Dallas stalwarts, Mike Luzecky (bass) and Jordan Gheen (trumpet) complete the quartets vibrant sound.
The band draws inspiration from the current sounds of artists such as Mark Turner and Ambrose Akinmusire, alongside the legacies of avant garde jazz artists like Ornette Coleman and Freddie Hubbard, among others. In December 2021, Souris-Jordan Jazz Orchestra released their debut album "Battlegrounds Pt One." The chronicle, "Battlegrounds Pt Two", will release in June 2022.
Souris-Jordan Jazz Orchestra has performed at venues all over Texas including The Balcony Club, JazzStand on Abrams, Andy's, and Backyard on Bell, sharing the bill with artists Caroline Davis, Rob Clearfield, For Now, and Oak Trio.
